This design has been influenced by a well known NZ carver – Russel Beck (now passed). He made a piece I think was called birth of a pounamu that had a smooth stone coming out of a weathered natural part.
With so much going on these days it can be easy to loose track of objective reality and direction. This carving is about awakening to ourselves, our environment, our potential.
Kokopu pounamu is named after our speckled native trout.
