Kawakawa Pounamu Bird Form

The design for this bird form came from modifying my existing faceted jade drops.  I kept the top with its three facet/planes which already resembled feathers but added a curved belly coming back from the head as well as a notch at the end of his tail to resemble his tail feathers parting.    The flat planes of the top contrast well with the nice curved belly.

I didn’t carve him with a particular species in mind,  being Pounamu maybe a Kakapo?

This Jade is Pounamu (New Zealand Jade).  It is Kawakawa variety with wonderfully translucence and small black spots and cloud patterns.
