Pounamu Weta Sculpture – wip #4
This will be a sculpture of a Pounamu NZ tree Weta on a carved wooden base.
I’ve taken the base as far as I want to for now and will swap over to the weta. I normally do this when there are a few elements so they develop together.
I’m really liking how the base is progressing, there’s lots of nice curves and small bits of visual tension.
One of the aspects I particularly like about carving is developing your own tools.The last few photos are of a sander I’ve build esp for this job. It can take a variety of sanding drums and larger burrs. Super handy for woodworking.
